  • Phloem: The Plant's Food Transport System - From Leaves to Roots
The vascular tissue that carries food from the leaves to roots is called phloem.

    Here's why:

    * Phloem is one of the two main types of vascular tissue in plants (the other being xylem).

    * Xylem carries water and dissolved minerals upwards from the roots to the rest of the plant.

    * Phloem carries sugars (produced during photosynthesis in the leaves) downwards to the roots and other parts of the plant for growth and storage.
