  • Science vs. Technology: Which Came First? - A Historical Perspective
    Science is older than technology.

    Here's why:

    * Science is the pursuit of understanding the natural world. This pursuit has been around since humans first started observing and questioning the world around them. Early humans used their observations to understand the weather, the seasons, and how to hunt and gather.

    * Technology is the application of scientific knowledge to create tools and solve problems. While humans have always used tools, the deliberate application of scientific understanding to create and improve tools is a more recent development.

    Think of it this way:

    * Science is the foundation, the knowledge base.

    * Technology is the building, the application of that knowledge.

While we might think of technology as being very modern, it's important to remember that even ancient tools and techniques were based on scientific understanding, even if that understanding was often implicit rather than explicit.
