  • Plasmids: Distribution, Function, and Significance in Diverse Organisms
Plasmids are not unique to any one organism. They are found in a wide variety of organisms, but are most commonly associated with bacteria.

    Here's why:

    * Bacteria: Plasmids are small, circular DNA molecules that exist independently of the main bacterial chromosome. They replicate independently and can be transferred between bacteria, often carrying genes that give the bacteria advantageous traits like antibiotic resistance.

    * Other organisms: Plasmids have also been found in some archaea, fungi, and even some eukaryotic organisms like plants and animals, though they are less common in these groups.

So, while plasmids are prevalent in bacteria, they are not exclusive to them.
