  • Acquired vs. Inherited Traits: Understanding the Difference
The opposite of an inherited trait is an acquired trait.

    Here's the breakdown:

    * Inherited Traits: Passed down from parents to offspring through genes. These are determined by your DNA and are often called "nature". Examples include eye color, hair color, and height.

    * Acquired Traits: Developed during an organism's lifetime due to environmental factors or experiences. These are not encoded in DNA and are often called "nurture". Examples include learning a language, developing muscle mass through exercise, or getting a scar from an injury.

So, while inherited traits are determined by your genes, acquired traits are developed through life experiences.
