  • Homologous Chromosomes: Understanding Gene Pairs and Traits
Two chromosomes that have the same genes for a trait are said to be homologous chromosomes.

    Here's why:

    * Homologous chromosomes are pairs of chromosomes that have the same genes in the same order. They come from each parent, making up a pair.

    * Genes are segments of DNA that code for specific traits.

    * Even though they have the same genes, the versions of those genes (called alleles) might be different. This is why siblings might have different eye colors even though they inherit the same genes for eye color.
