  • Understanding Sex Chromosomes: X and Y - Their Role in Sex Determination
The sex chromosomes are X and Y.

    * Females typically have two X chromosomes (XX).

    * Males typically have one X and one Y chromosome (XY).

While the X chromosome is relatively large and carries many genes, the Y chromosome is much smaller and contains fewer genes. The Y chromosome contains the SRY gene, which is responsible for the development of male characteristics.
