  • Mitosis Phases: A Step-by-Step Guide (Prophase to Telophase)
The four phases of mitosis in order are:

    1. Prophase: The chromosomes condense, the nuclear envelope breaks down, and the mitotic spindle begins to form.

    2. Metaphase: The chromosomes line up at the center of the cell, attached to the spindle fibers.

    3. Anaphase: The sister chromatids separate and are pulled to opposite poles of the cell by the spindle fibers.

    4. Telophase: The chromosomes reach the poles of the cell, the nuclear envelope reforms around each set of chromosomes, and the cytoplasm divides (cytokinesis) to form two daughter cells.
