  • How Plant Stems Aid Survival: Support & Nutrient Transport
Here are two ways a stem system can help a plant survive in its environment:

    1. Support and Structure: The stem provides the plant with its structural framework, allowing it to stand upright and reach for sunlight. This is especially important for taller plants that need to compete with others for light.

    2. Transport of Water and Nutrients: The stem contains vascular tissues (xylem and phloem) that act like plumbing. Xylem carries water and minerals absorbed from the roots up to the leaves, while phloem carries sugars produced in the leaves down to the rest of the plant for growth and energy. This efficient transport system ensures the plant gets what it needs to thrive.
