  • Amnion: Understanding the Protective Amniotic Membrane
The thin fluid-filled membrane surrounding an embryo is called the amnion.

The amniotic sac, formed by the amnion, contains amniotic fluid, which serves several important functions:

    * Protection: Cushions the embryo from physical shocks and impacts.

    * Temperature regulation: Helps maintain a stable temperature for the developing embryo.

    * Allows for movement: Provides space for the embryo to move and develop.

    * Lubrication: Allows for smooth passage through the birth canal.
