  • Multiple Alleles: Understanding Gene Variations and Traits
Three or more forms of a gene that code for a single trait are called multiple alleles.

    Here's why:

    * Alleles are alternative forms of a gene.

    * Traits are characteristics that are determined by genes.

For example, human blood type is determined by the ABO gene, which has three alleles: A, B, and O. These alleles combine in different ways to produce four blood types: A, B, AB, and O.
