    DNA is made up of three main types of smaller molecules:

    1. Nucleotides: These are the building blocks of DNA. Each nucleotide consists of three parts:

    * Sugar: Deoxyribose, a five-carbon sugar.

    * Phosphate group: A negatively charged molecule containing phosphorus.

    * Nitrogenous base: This is the part of the nucleotide that varies and determines its identity. There are four different nitrogenous bases in DNA:

    * Adenine (A)

    * Guanine (G)

    * Cytosine (C)

    * Thymine (T)

    2. Water: Water is essential for the structure and function of DNA. It helps to maintain the proper hydration of the molecule and facilitates the formation of the double helix.

    3. Ions: Various ions, such as magnesium (Mg2+), play a role in DNA replication and other processes. They help stabilize the DNA structure and facilitate interactions with enzymes.

    Therefore, while nucleotides are the fundamental building blocks of DNA, other molecules like water and ions are also crucial for its proper function.
