  • Understanding Seed Anatomy: The Essential Parts of a Seed
There are actually three main parts of a seed, not five. Here they are:

    1. Seed Coat: This is the outer protective layer of the seed, shielding the embryo from damage and keeping it moist.

    2. Embryo: This is the tiny, undeveloped plant that will grow into a new plant. It includes the radicle (baby root) and the plumule (baby shoot).

    3. Endosperm: This is the food reserve for the developing embryo. It provides nourishment for the plant until it can produce its own food through photosynthesis.

While not technically parts of the seed itself, some seeds also have a seed coat appendage, which can be a wing, hair, or other structure to help with seed dispersal.

Let me know if you have more questions about seeds! 😊
