  • Evolution of Life: What Followed Cyanobacteria?
It's not quite accurate to say that one organism "came after" cyanobacteria. Instead, think of it as a branching evolution:

    * Cyanobacteria were the first organisms to produce oxygen through photosynthesis. They existed billions of years ago, and their existence fundamentally changed Earth's atmosphere.

    * After cyanobacteria, life continued to diversify. Many other types of bacteria and single-celled organisms evolved.

    * Eventually, more complex life forms emerged. This included eukaryotes (organisms with a nucleus), which include plants, animals, fungi, and protists.

So, there's no single organism that directly "came after" cyanobacteria. Instead, the evolution of life is a complex tapestry of branching lineages and diverse organisms that have evolved over billions of years.
