  • RNA Transcription: Where and How it Happens in Cells
    Transcription, the process of creating RNA from a DNA template, takes place in the nucleus of a cell.

    Here's why:

    * DNA is located in the nucleus: The genetic instructions encoded in DNA are stored within the nucleus, protected by a double membrane.

    * RNA polymerase is in the nucleus: The enzyme responsible for transcription, RNA polymerase, is also found in the nucleus. This enzyme binds to the DNA template and creates a complementary RNA molecule.

    * RNA exits the nucleus: Once transcribed, the RNA molecule (usually mRNA) needs to exit the nucleus to reach the ribosomes in the cytoplasm, where protein synthesis occurs.

    Therefore, the nucleus provides the necessary environment and components for transcription to occur.
