  • Mitochondria: The Only Organelle Inherited from Your Mother | Biology Explained
The only organelle that has its own DNA and you can get from your mom is the mitochondria.

    Here's why:

    * Mitochondria are the "powerhouses" of the cell, responsible for producing energy (ATP).

    * They have their own circular DNA, separate from the DNA in the cell's nucleus.

    * In most organisms, mitochondria are inherited solely from the mother, as the egg cell contributes the majority of the cytoplasm and organelles to the zygote. The sperm cell only contributes the nucleus.

Therefore, mitochondrial DNA is a valuable tool for tracing maternal lineage.
