  • The Origins of Zoology: Who First Defined the Study of Animals?
The term "zoology" is generally attributed to Aristotle (384-322 BC), a Greek philosopher and scientist.

While he didn't specifically use the word "zoology" as we know it today, his extensive studies of animals and their classification laid the foundation for the discipline. He was the first to systematically classify animals based on their characteristics, and his work formed the basis of later zoological studies.

It wasn't until the 17th century that the term "zoology" as we know it became widely used, with the publication of works like "Historia Animalium" by Ulisse Aldrovandi and "De Animalibus" by William Harvey.
