  • Uterus Tissue Types: Myometrium, Endometrium & Perimetrium Explained
The uterus is made of several types of tissue, but the most prominent are:

    * Smooth muscle: This forms the myometrium, the thick muscular wall of the uterus responsible for contractions during labor and menstruation.

    * Endometrium: This is the inner lining of the uterus, responsible for implantation of the fertilized egg and shedding during menstruation. The endometrium is composed of epithelial tissue, connective tissue, and glands.

    * Perimetrium: This is the outer layer of the uterus, also known as the serosa. It's a thin layer of epithelial tissue that helps to hold the uterus in place.

There are also other tissues present in the uterus, including:

    * Blood vessels: These provide nutrients and oxygen to the uterus.

    * Nerves: These transmit signals to and from the brain.

    * Lymphatic vessels: These help to drain fluids from the uterus.

So, while the uterus is primarily made of smooth muscle, it is also a complex organ composed of various tissue types working together to perform its functions.
