  • Dominant Traits in Genetics: Mendel's F1 Generation
    Mendel referred to the characteristic that was expressed in the hybrid F1 or first filial generation as dominant.

    He observed that when he crossed plants with contrasting traits (e.g., purple flowers and white flowers), the offspring (F1 generation) all exhibited only one of the traits. This trait was called dominant, while the trait that was not expressed was called recessive.
