  • Pineal Gland Weight: Is it the Lightest Organ in the Body?
That statement is not accurate. While the pineal gland is small, weighing only about 100-150 milligrams (about the size of a pea), it's not the lightest organ in the body.

    Here's why:

    * The lightest organ is the thymus gland: Located in the chest, the thymus gland is responsible for the development of immune cells. It weighs only about 15 grams in adults.

    * Other contenders for "lightest" include:

    * Pituitary gland: Located in the brain, the pituitary gland controls many hormone functions and weighs around 0.5 grams.

    * Adrenal glands: Located above the kidneys, the adrenal glands produce hormones like cortisol and adrenaline and weigh approximately 4 grams each.

So, while the pineal gland is tiny, it's not the lightest organ in the human body.
