  • Nonvascular Plants: Definition, Examples & Characteristics
The type of plants that do NOT have vascular tissues are called nonvascular plants.

Here are some examples of nonvascular plants:

    * Mosses: These soft, small plants often grow in damp, shady environments.

    * Liverworts: These plants are often found in moist habitats and have flattened, lobed bodies.

    * Hornworts: These plants have a horn-like structure that contains spores.

Nonvascular plants lack the specialized tissues (xylem and phloem) that vascular plants use to transport water and nutrients. This limits their size and means they must live in moist environments where they can absorb water directly.
