* Liver: The liver stores glycogen as a readily available source of glucose for the body. When blood sugar levels drop, the liver breaks down glycogen into glucose and releases it into the bloodstream.
* Muscles: Muscles also store glycogen, but they primarily use it for their own energy needs during physical activity. Muscle glycogen is not readily available to other tissues.
In smaller amounts, glycogen can also be found in other tissues, like the brain and kidneys.
