    2. Absorption:

    * The tall, narrow structure of columnar cells provides a large surface area for absorption. This is particularly important in the small intestine, where nutrients are absorbed from digested food.

    3. Protection:

    * The single layer of tightly packed cells provides a barrier against the entry of foreign substances or harmful microorganisms.

    4. Movement of substances:

    * Cilia, hair-like projections present on the surface of some columnar cells, aid in the movement of substances along the epithelial surface. This is crucial in the respiratory system for moving mucus and debris out of the airways.

    5. Sensory function:

    * Some columnar cells have sensory receptors that detect specific stimuli, like those found in the taste buds of the tongue.
