The stroma is the fluid-filled space inside the chloroplasts of plant cells, where photosynthesis takes place.
Mitochondria have two membranes:
* Outer membrane: Smooth and forms the outer boundary of the organelle.
* Inner membrane: Folded into cristae, which increase the surface area for ATP production.
The space between the inner and outer membranes is called the intermembrane space. This space is filled with a fluid that is distinct from the matrix, which is the space enclosed by the inner membrane.
Therefore, the stroma is not associated with mitochondria.
