  • ATP: Understanding Its Role as a Nucleotide
ATP (adenosine triphosphate) belongs to the category of nucleotides.

    Here's why:

    * Nucleotides are the building blocks of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). They consist of three parts:

    * A nitrogenous base: In ATP, this is adenine.

    * A five-carbon sugar: In ATP, this is ribose.

    * One or more phosphate groups: ATP has three phosphate groups.

While ATP is often associated with energy, its classification as a nucleotide is based on its chemical structure.
