  • Amoeba Pseudopods: Understanding Cell Extensions and Movement
The cell part inside an amoeba that is most likely used to make the extension is the pseudopod. Pseudopods are temporary finger-like or lobe-shaped extensions of the cell membrane used for movement and capturing food. Amoebas extend pseudopodia by pushing out their cytoplasm, which contains the organelles and other cellular components, into the surrounding environment. The pseudopodia help amoebas move by changing shape and crawling over surfaces or through liquids. They also play an important role in phagocytosis, the process by which amoebas engulf and ingest food particles.
