  • Cell Membrane Transport: Passive vs. Active Transport Explained
All transport through the cell membrane can be classified as either passive or active transport. Passive transport does not require energy from the cell, while active transport does. Passive transport includes simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, and osmosis. Active transport includes the sodium-potassium pump, the calcium pump, and the glucose transporters.
