The G2 phase is the second gap phase of the cell cycle. It is the period between the completion of DNA replication and the beginning of mitosis. During the G2 phase, the cell checks for DNA damage and repairs any damage that is found. The cell also synthesizes proteins that are necessary for mitosis.
