The synthesis of insulin is dependent upon the amino acid sequence. Proinsulin is synthesized via the rough endoplasmic reticulum and golgi apparatus. Within the golgi apparatus, pro-insulin is packaged into secretory vesicles for the purpose of secretion. It is then transported out of the cell via exocytosis.
