  • Understanding Genetic Code: What Do Codons Mean?
A group of three nitrogen bases, also known as a codon, codes for a specific amino acid in the genetic code. Each codon corresponds to a particular amino acid, with some codons specifying the start or stop of protein synthesis. The genetic code is universal, meaning that the same codons code for the same amino acids in almost all known living organisms.
