  • Cellular Respiration: The Role of Carbon Dioxide Removal
During cellular respiration, carbon dioxide leaves the cell because it is a waste product of the process. Cellular respiration is a series of chemical reactions that break down glucose to produce energy in the form of ATP. One of the reactants in cellular respiration is oxygen, and one of the products is carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is transported out of the cell because it is a waste product and because it can be harmful to the cell if it accumulates in high concentrations.
