  • Cell Size Limits: Understanding Surface Area and Volume
Cells are limited in size by the surface area-to-volume ratio. As a cell gets larger, the surface area does not increase as quickly as the volume. This means that the cell has less surface area to exchange materials with its environment, which can limit its growth.
