  • Endospores: Understanding Bacterial Survival Mechanisms
    Endospores are dormant cells produced by certain bacteria that can survive even in harsh environments. They are formed when a bacterial cell encounters unfavourable conditions, such as starvation, heat, or drought. The endospore contains the bacterium's DNA and other essential components, and is surrounded by a tough protective coat. When conditions improve, the endospore germinates and grows into a new bacterial cell.

    Endospores are important for the survival of bacteria in harsh environments. They allow bacteria to survive for long periods of time, even in extreme conditions. This is why some bacteria, such as *Bacillus* and *Clostridium*, are able to survive in boiling water or even in space.
