Pulmonary arteries are not involved in the systematic circulation of blood. They carry deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs, where it is oxygenated and returned to the heart through the pulmonary veins. Systematic circulation refers to the circulation of oxygenated blood from the left ventricle of the heart to the rest of the body and back to the right atrium.
