  • Interphase: Understanding the Cell Cycle's Growth & Preparation Phase
The period between cell divisions is known as interphase. Interphase is the longest phase of the cell cycle and is typically divided into three stages: G1, S, and G2. During G1, the cell grows and synthesizes proteins and RNA. In S phase, the cell's DNA is replicated. Finally, in G2, the cell prepares for mitosis or meiosis by synthesizing proteins and organelles needed for cell division.
