  • Nucleolus: Structure, Function, and Significance in Cell Biology
The dark-staining round structure within the nucleus is known as the nucleolus. It is the site of ribosome synthesis, where ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is transcribed and processed, and where ribosomes are assembled. The nucleolus is not surrounded by a membrane and is instead composed of densely packed DNA, proteins, and RNA molecules. It is often visible under a microscope as a distinct, spherical structure within the nucleus.
