A monoecious plant is an angiosperm that produces both male and female reproductive structures, stamen (male) and pistil (female), in the same individual plant. These plants have both types of flowers on the same plant, either in separate clusters or mixed together in the same inflorescence. Monoecy ensures cross-pollination and thus increases the chances of successful reproduction. Examples of monoecious plants include cucumber, corn (maize), pumpkin, squash, walnut, oak, birch, hazel and willow.
