  • The Evolution of Protist Classification: From Two to Many Kingdoms
    There weren't only two kingdoms. When Linnaeus proposed his two-kingdom system in the 18th century, there were actually three kingdoms: Animalia, Plantae, and Mineralia. Protists didn't become a distinct kingdom until the late 19th century, when Ernst Haeckel proposed a three-kingdom system that included Protista, Animalia, and Plantae.
