  • SRY Gene: The Key to Sex Determination in Humans
The gene that determines sex of a child is the SRY gene, which stands for sex-determining region Y. It is located on the Y chromosome and is only present in males. When a sperm cell carrying the SRY gene fertilizes an egg, it triggers the development of male sex organs. In the absence of the SRY gene, female sex organs develop.
