Unicellular vs. Multicellular: Understanding Cell Numbers in Living Organisms
Living things can be unicellular or multicellular. Unicellular organisms, such as bacteria and protozoa, have only one cell. Multicellular organisms, such as plants and animals, have many cells. The number of cells in a multicellular organism can vary from a few hundred to trillions. For example, the human body is estimated to have about 37.2 trillion cells.
