The phloem is located in the stems and leaves of vascular plants. Phloem tissue forms continuous tubes made of sieve elements, which are specialized cells that do not have a nucleus at maturity and have perforated cell walls. The phloem is responsible for transporting the products of photosynthesis, mainly sucrose, from the leaves to the rest of the plant, including roots, stems, flowers, fruits and seeds.
