  • Transcription Factors: Regulating Gene Expression by Binding to DNA
The proteins that bind to DNA and turn on operons by making it easier for RNA polymerase to bind to a promoter are called transcription factors. These proteins bind to specific DNA sequences, known as operator regions, and induce a conformational change that allows RNA polymerase to access and transcribe the downstream genes. Transcription factors play a crucial role in regulating gene expression by controlling the initiation of transcription.
