  • Photosynthesis: The Role of Plants and Chloroplasts
Neither animals nor humans are directly involved in the process of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is performed by plants and some other organisms, such as certain bacteria and algae, which contain specialized structures called chloroplasts. Chloroplasts contain the green pigment chlorophyll, which captures energy from sunlight and converts it into chemical energy, stored as sugars and oxygen.
