  • Osmosis: Understanding Water Movement Across Cell Membranes
The movement of water across a cell membrane is called osmosis. Osmosis is the process by which water molecules move from an area of high water concentration to an area of low water concentration through a semipermeable membrane. Semipermeable membranes allow water molecules to pass through, but they block the passage of larger molecules and ions.
