  • Linear DNA Fragment from Restriction Enzyme Cleavage of Plasmids
The resulting piece is a linear DNA molecule.

When circular plasmid DNA is cut open at a single site by a restriction enzyme, the covalent bonds between the nucleotides at the cut site are broken and the circular DNA molecule is converted into a linear DNA molecule.
