  • Photosynthesis: How Plants Acquire Essential Raw Materials
Carbon dioxide: Plants obtain carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through the process of diffusion. Carbon dioxide is a gas that is present in the air we breathe, and plants have small openings on their leaves called stomata that allow carbon dioxide to enter.

Water: Plants obtain water from the soil through their roots. Roots are made up of tiny root hairs that increase the surface area available for water absorption. Water is then transported up the stem of the plant to the leaves.

Sunlight: Sunlight is the energy source for photosynthesis. Plants absorb sunlight through their chlorophyll, a green pigment that is found in the chloroplasts of plant cells. Chloroplasts are organelles that are responsible for photosynthesis.
