  • Phosphorus: A Key Difference Between Phospholipids and Chitin
The element that is present in a phospholipid and not in chitin is phosphorus. Phosphorus is a major component of the polar head group of phospholipids, which gives them their amphipathic properties. In contrast, chitin is a polysaccharide composed of repeating units of N-acetylglucosamine, and does not contain phosphorus.
