  • Starch & Cellulose: Understanding Glucose Polymers in Biology
Two polymers formed from alpha glucose are starch and cellulose. Starch is a storage polysaccharide found in plants, while cellulose is a structural polysaccharide found in plant cell walls. Both starch and cellulose are composed of glucose monomers, but they differ in their chemical structure and function. Starch is a branched polymer, while cellulose is a linear polymer. Starch is broken down into individual sugars by enzymes called amylases, while cellulose is broken down by enzymes called cellulases.
