  • Acetyl-CoA: The Central Hub of Metabolism - Carbohydrates, Fats, & Proteins
The molecule that is common to the metabolism of carbohydrates, fatty acids, amino acids, and alcohol is acetyl-CoA. Acetyl-CoA is a two-carbon molecule that is formed when these nutrients are broken down in the body. It is then used as a starting point for the synthesis of other molecules, such as glucose, fatty acids, and cholesterol.
