  • Cell Cycle Stages: A Step-by-Step Guide from Division to Division
    Interphase

    * G1 phase: The cell grows and prepares for DNA synthesis.

    * S phase: The cell's DNA is replicated.

    * G2 phase: The cell checks for DNA damage and prepares for mitosis.

    Mitosis

    * Prophase: The chromosomes condense and the nuclear envelope breaks down.

    * Metaphase: The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell.

    * Anaphase: The chromosomes are separated and pulled to opposite ends of the cell.

    * Telophase: Two new nuclear envelopes form around the chromosomes and the cell membrane pinches in the middle, dividing the cell into two new cells.

    Cytokinesis

    * In animal cells, cytokinesis occurs by pinching the cell membrane in the middle.

    * In plant cells, cytokinesis occurs by forming a cell plate that divides the cytoplasm into two new cells.
