  • Evolution of Hands and Feet: Which Came First?
    An agile foot evolved first.

Hands evolved from feet. The early tetrapods, the first vertebrates with four legs, had pentadactyl limbs, meaning they had five digits on each limb. Over time, the front legs of tetrapods became shorter and more flexible, while the back legs became longer and stronger. This allowed them to move more efficiently on land. The front legs eventually evolved into hands, which are specialized for grasping and manipulating objects.
